About this deal

Sutton, A. (2016). Measuring the effects of self-awareness: Construction of the Self-Awareness Outcomes Questionnaire. Europe’s Journal of Psychology, 12, 645–658. Set time aside to practice. Most people go throughout their daily lives without thought of why they are consuming or behaving in a particular way. When you set aside the time to think about your thinking, you give yourself space to pursue this internal insight.

Another important part of mindfulness is an awareness of our thoughts and feelings as they happen moment to moment. The knowing of our being—or rather, awareness’s knowing of its own being in us—is our primary, fundamental and most intimate experience. It is in this experience that the peace, happiness and love for which all people long reside. The happiness we have sought so long outside of ourselves, in situations, objects and relationships, turns out to be always present and available in the simple knowing of our own being as it truly is. It’s easy to see how self-awareness can lead to these outcomes in the workplace, as better self-evaluation naturally leads to improving the alignment between our actions and our standards, resulting in better performance. Seems simple right? Well it is, kind of, at least for a moment. What is difficult is sustaining the detachment from our thoughts, emotions and sensory inputs. For anyone who’s tried to be mindful, it is a similar challenge. It is easy to be mindful, for a moment or even a few minutes, but it is really hard to sustain that mindfulness for more than a few minutes.
