He is one of those unique artists, like Andy Warhol or Keith Haring, who is recognised within the art world but whose reach extends far beyond to impact our wider culture. Nominated for the Turner Prize in 2013, Glasgow School of Art alumnus Shrigley also created an elongated thumbs-up for the Fourth Plinth in London's Trafalgar Square in 2016 – in the (possibly satirical) hope of "making the world a better place". Laughter has been central to the cultural politics of movements including Dada, Surrealism and Situationism, and the practices of so many artists who defy categorization.David Shrigley (1968) is best known for his distinctive drawing style and works that make satirical comments on everyday situations and human interactions.
