Description

A cable is considered “unbalanced” when it takes the audio signal from a piece of equipment you’re using (such as an instrument or stereo system) and passes it straight through to a mixer or other capture/receiver device without manipulation. They are, however, still susceptible to the noise that unbalanced signals are prone to in these scenarios. The signal wires pass an identical audio signal through each wire, while the surrounding ground wire works the same as in unbalanced cables, shielding the signal wires from external electronic interference.

However, any distortion that occurs will affect both the signals, so when they are flipped at the end, the distortion will be out of phase, and will cancel itself out. A high-end Balanced Jack Lead with Neutrik connectors and double screened Sommer Club Cable (60cm - 15m).I know TR cables loose signal when run long lengths and that XLR cables can run long lengths without loosing much signal. Guaranteed Quality – You can see the details of VisioSound lifetime guarantee below but in a nutshell VisioSound will replace any faulty cable that fails due to defects in workmanship or materials. Note that when I say balanced output on the soundcard,I’m not referring to the cable itself, but the actual’s cards output via its connectors(usually female). The audio cables used in a system can have a major impact on the quality of sound while live streaming and/or recording your live event production. Balanced audio is better for longer cable runs and when those cables are around a high amount of electric signal.

Market Leading Performance – VisioSound cables are some of the best-selling pro audio leads on the market, available exclusively from VisioSound’s online and retail outlets. As used in top UK recording studios and live performances where sound quality and reliability are essential. I have managed to record one channel (mono, not stereo) from the organ AUX out into the UR22; using a 1/4″ jack from the organ to an XLR into the UR22. When you connect your cables to instruments or equipment with loud signals, such as guitars or keyboards, they are loud enough that any extra noise that might be picked up by the cable will be unnoticeable – the sound from the guitar or keyboard will easily mask and muffle the unwanted noise in a way that wouldn’t happen on a relatively quiet signal from equipment such as a microphone. Knowing the difference between balanced and unbalanced cables, and appropriate usage of each of these cables will improve your audio quality and even help with your budgeting and equipment management.

Balanced signals are a great improvement on unbalanced ones, which is why all Epiphan capture, streaming and recording equipment, such as Pearl (our flagship all-in-one live production streaming, recording and mixing device), is designed to a professional standard, allowing users to achieve the best in audio (and video) quality. If you sum two signals that are identical but are reversed in polarity, the signals cancel out, leaving you with silence. Stereo/ Balanced socket or musical instruments including guitars, however please check your existing cables or sockets to ensure compatibility with your existing equipment.Unbalanced" has a negative connotation, and many users may interpret that to mean that they should avoid unbalanced cables altogether. So if I carried a balanced cable in my bag, would work any WORSE than an unbalanced cable if the devices were not balanced?

It does a decent job of rejecting noise, but unfortunately, the wire itself also acts like an antenna and picks up noise. As you see in the diagram below, there are three male pins inside the connector: the groundwire, the hot signal, and the cold signal.

Every audio cable, even if used properly, has the potential to add noise and distortion into your mix, meaning that it is important to use the right cable for the task at hand. Better quality than most XLR cables and the different colours is a great way to identify which cable is which length when setting up. As far as I know, I have tried all types of cable, all of which make the same amount of unwanted sound. The grounded cable will have slightly better shielding properties, but using a balanced cable with unbalanced source and receiver will unfortunately make no noticeable difference.
