If you've inherited a perfectly acceptable kitchen but hate the colour, or are longing for a kitchen renovation but don't have the budget, then giving your kitchen cupboards a simple lick of paint can offer a quick, easy and affordable solution. A primer creates a layer that helps the paint adhere to the surface that is being painted, both while paint is being applied and long-term. Dulux has always got our back when it comes to finding quality, affordable paint - it's a great option if you're on the lookout for Farrow and Ball alternatives, too! You can customise your pot with a choice of nearly 150 colours, and Gloss, Matte, and Eggshell options.

The brand's cupboard paint features a satin finish so you can enjoy a subtle sheen and durable, washable coating. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. It’s available in a selection of 11 colours and the brand state that only one coat is needed unless you are covering a bold colour. I made sure I took the time to properly prep the old laminate cabinets I was working with and took my time with painting each door. From painting garden fences to mist coats upon fresh plaster, Edward (also referred to as "Eddie") is the specialist when it comes to painting and decorating.Fingers crossed the white paint I’ll be using on the top cabinets will be as nice to use as the beautiful blue I’ve used on the bottom. This is a paint specially formulated for kitchen cupboards and does a great job of transforming tired cabinets and doors.

CONS: Unlike the satin paints I’ve used elsewhere in the house, Frenchic Alfresco range is matt which looks gorgeous. The low VOC paint is designed to withstand water, grease and general stains making it a top pick for even the messiest of cooks. I like Dulux satinwood for cupboard doors, but in my experience the water based (quick drying) stuff chips more easily than the solvent based stuff. CONS: I found the paint watery which made it trickier to work with than some other paints I’ve tried, but this doesn’t appear to hinder its performance. Dulux are a paint brand that need no introduction and their dedicated cupboard paint is a great option to consider. It’s really easy to apply and provides good coverage, but to get a strong finish you need to apply a couple of thin coats with a brush or roller.
