I also appreciated the extra information in the appendages, particularly the articles that had been published shortly after the disaster.

Disclaimer: The authors’ views expressed in this article do not necessarily reflect the views of Marine Insight. As someone who loves stories about horrible omens and other supernatural occurrences that predict disaster, I was incredibly intrigued by this book and happy that my request had been approved.

First published in 1986, it was updated in the 1990s to include new information and photographs following the discovery of the wreck, which Eaton and Haas, both acknowledged Titanic experts, had seen for themselves from a submersible. Complete with histories and accounts from the survivors, the book provides a full understanding of the disaster and the far-reaching effects it had on the survivors. Before boarding Titanic, she had already had one lucky escape five months earlier on Titanic’s other ‘twin’, Olympic, which collided with the cruiser HMS Hawke as she left Southampton on her fifth voyage since launch. It was on Wednesday, 10 April 1912, that the imposing bulk of the RMS Titanic slipped her berth, and, to great fanfare, headed out into the Solent at the start of her maiden voyage.

This book is a dry read, devoid of drama and stripped of humanity, but tells more about the disaster than a hundred other books combined. I am really obsessed with anything and everything to do with the Titanic and I try to read every book I can on the subject.

You will find yourself drifting through our Presidential Suites at first, while you absorb the space and light which these magnificent hotel suites possess. There's also a couple that are small inaccuracies—I'm going to leave them unidentified for fellow enthusiasts to find.
