About this deal

Corinthians 12:9-10 but he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness. I usually do the morning prayer myself wherever I am at home or working at a hotel away or waiting in my car. The e-book has app-like features and includes the Daily Prayer and Compline liturgies, the Meditations for the Day from Book 2 and all four years of Daily Readings from Books 1 and 2. Although some of the sections are liturgical in nature, this collection of prayers, devotionals, and historical bits( from Celtic evangelical 'saints') is full of encouragement. One of the best contemporary prayer books available" - RICHARD FOSTER "A useful resource book for groups of Christians who wish to pray together regularly.

A friend of mine suggested that I get this book to help with my daily quiet time, because I was struggling to find something to hang my routine on without becoming stale. The main part of the book consists of thoughts, prayers and readings for the morning and the evening of every day of the year, as well as liturgies for both normal and special occasions. If you wish to use part, or all, of our Complines in public worship for a one-off event, you may reproduce the words in a service sheet providing they are not being sold. This is a resource you will want to come back to, and so I am going to minimize my own words today, encouraging you instead to dive deep into the Northumbria Community and experience all the Spirit has for you through them.

I normally use the Benedictine Daily Prayer [breviary] which holds a special place in my heart but the Celtic Daily prayer is a lovely change and not so very far removed. Others find it a welcome opportunity to withdraw from the tensions and busyness of the day to spend some time quiet and alone with God, putting the day’s work into a different perspective. The first in a two-volume collection of liturgies, prayers and meditations from the Northumbria Community, inspired by ancient Celtic Christianity, but reaching out to bring inspiration and comfort to all today who seek to be still and to find spiritual truth. The words of the Daily Office are drawn from a variety of sources, such as St Patrick’s Breastplate, Teresa’s Bookmark, Columba’s Blessing, etc – and from Psalm 27 for Morning Prayer, Psalm 90 for Midday Prayer and Psalm 130 for Evening Prayer.

My only complaint is -- and it's why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 -- that the paperback is soon losing its morning-prayer pages since I refer to them everyday, so I wonder if the hardback wouldn't be a better choice. Many have found that the use of the CD whilst travelling to or from work by car can be very helpful. They are born out of our Community’s story, have been lived and prayed throughout our journey, and enshrine our ethos. I had hoped for it sooner as I was on sabbatical 2018/19 and had to leave the physical copy at home.

This consists of the liturgy for Morning, Midday and Evening Prayer and a set of 31 daily meditations from sources that are important to the Community’s foundation and ethos. Topics include reaching adulthood/mid-life/old-age; renewal of a marriage; the summer solstice; living with pain; blessing a garden; Christmas preparation; after an argument; scattering ashes; studying; peace; the 'father wound'; loyalty and sleep, among many, many others. In this respect the Community follows the rich tradition of monastic communities through the centuries. This is a voluminous work especially for a paperback - However it is a well thought out daily prayer guide in the Celtic, Neo-Celtic Christian tradition. Both volumes of Celtic Daily Prayer are a complex mixture of writing original to Northumbria Community, along with some third party and out-of-copyright material, and so we thought it would help to offer some guidelines to simplify the process of seeking permission to use the material they contain. All short, beautiful prayers in the Celtic tradition, rich in scripture, but easily accessible to all.

For those unaccustomed to recited prayers, it will be new and invigorating, even if the strangeness of it may take some getting used to. By using the Web site, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by the Terms and Conditions. I am tempted to dissect a copy and scan it into several PDF files to make it more manageable for daily travel ~ (maybe on a monthly or seasonal basis) - Unfortunately it is not offered in any e-formats of PDF or Kindle versions to my knowlege. If you are simply reading aloud from the books in a public context, such as a Church service, then no permission is needed unless a recording is being taken that will be broadcast or sold. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Much of the writings and daily devotionals bring deeper communion with God with challenging questions.
